Giving up on a game, it's not something I ever want to do, when I pop a game into my Xbox, I'm in it for the long hall. It's not in me to give up on a game, especially one that was heralded as possibly game of the year, or one of the best Sci-Fi RPG's ever created. I'm talking about the game MASS Effect, for the Xbox 360.
Justin lent me the game a week ago, he hadn't finished it, but he had just gotten 3 new games, so I knew he wasn't going to get back to it for a while, so I figured I'd take a chance... boy I wish I hadn't. Getting into the game I was excited, it had the feel of the Knights of the Old Republic games, which I loved. However, as I began to play it, I realized the interface for upgrading your character and managing your part was very confusing, not intuitive at all. The combat in the game felt like an after thought, the game play was very bad, very loose, and the quests, well the quests for the first part of the game were basically walk around and talk to people.
Even with these shortcomings, I felt I could trudge on and get into this game, but then I got out into the galaxy, exploring different planets. Every single enemy I came in contact with outgunned me 20 to1, no matter if it was pirates on some dessert moon or Geth robot's on the mining planet, I couldn't make headway against them, the game was so imbalanced that I spent hours trying to get past areas teaming with bad guys, and I simply couldn't do it. I assumed it had to do with my current level, but how am I supposed to level up if I can't get anywhere?!
So after being frustrated with the game and not having any fun (giving it more than one chance) I finally gave up on it. For you guys who got through it, mad props to you, you are troopers. Maybe MASS Effect 2 won't suck as much, but at this point it's going to take a lot of hype to even get me to consider even trying another MASS Effect game.
Oh, the game art was awesome, and the blue alien women, were hot! So it wasn't all bad.
