Im gonna have to agree with Justin on what could be considered an rpg because there are many different types. You got your standard board game DnD games with dice, your pc versions of DnD like Icewind Dale and Vampire the masqurade, Japan Rpgs and the new styles like Morrowind and Oblivion which are like first or third person Rpgs. In fact when I played Morrowind It was a lot like a Live Action Rpg, a virtual larp if you will and this is the same as fall-out3 and Mass effect2 which i've yet to play. We used to go to S.o.l.a.r years ago and play live action DnD with foam covered swords, yes im that geeky but it was fun to beat down noobs in real life. But anyway just because a game is linear and has only one ending dosn't mean its not an rpg, the Legend of Zelda was an rpg and it had only one ending and was very linear. Hell for that matter Leisure Suit Larry would be considered an rpg as well. That Baseball game would most definitely be considered an rpg and one i cant wait to try out. I guess in the end all games are kinda rpgs when ya think about it. Oh and Justin dont feel bad about being traded to the Braves, just think about how many times we've been to the World Series in recent years lol. Great podcast one of your best for sure!!!

Thanks, Terry. If you even like baseball a little bit, MLB The Show is amazing.

As far as RPGs go, I think the one thing we failed to do was DEFINE what an RPG is. I think it boils down to choice, and I mean that in a lot of different ways. Choice of customizing your character looks, armor, experience pts., abilities, etc. The big thing, for me, in Mass Effect 2, is the character relationships and the choices within the game that make it unique to the player. I guess I define an RPG as a game that you can play where you can change up the experience to where it is unique to YOU. I'd disagree on Zelda, though, and consider that an adventure game. Though, maybe Zelda 2. There were a lot of RPG elements in that one. Otherwise, Zelda games were pretty much the same experience for each person. Everyone's character built up the same and yes, you did play a role, but everyone's role was the same. My Link was the same as your link, however, my Commander Shepard is completely different than everyone elses.
